Our Pearl Oyster mushroom grow kits provide delicious and nutritious oyster mushrooms that you can grow easily at home right out of the box. If you have ever wanted to grow your own mushrooms, this is the perfect starter kit for any fungi lovers based in the UK.

This 3kg kit should produce 500-700g over 2-3 crops. The freshest mushrooms money can buy!

The Pearl Oyster (Pleurotus ostreatus) also known as the 'tree oyster' is a strain of mushroom favoured by commercial growers around the world for it's fleshy caps, vigorous nature and high yields. The name comes from the beautiful cream coloured tones of the mushrooms, which produce in even, tightly formed layers. In the wild it's far less common than the Grey Oyster and normally found in the winter, however when cultivated it has a broad temperature range.  This mushroom is a feature of our grow rooms all year around!

How does the kit work?

  • Place the box in a room with natural light

  • Cut out perforated hole in the side

  • Spray with water 1-2 times per day

  • Sit back and watch the mushrooms grow from the box

Mushroom growing can be difficult for beginners so we've done the hard part, leaving you to reap the tasty harvests. Unlike some other mushroom companies, the complete process from spore to kit is done by us right here at our indoor farm in Leeds.

Our role:

  • We pasteurise a mixture of waste coffee grounds, straw, and soya husks to remove any competing fungi and bacteria that could cause contamination.

  • We then inoculate this mixture with oyster mushroom spawn (our fungi starter culture) and fill the growing bags which you find inside your kits.

  • The bags are then incubated for about two weeks in a warm, dark room where the mushroom spawn digests and spreads across the mixture in the bag.

  • This happens through the formation of mycelium (the white/creamy stuff seen in the bags) which is the non-mushroom part of fungi.

  • Once we see the signs that the mycelium is happy and healthy, we package the kits up and post them out immediately.

We are so confident that each of our kits will produce mushrooms that we offer a YME Grow Guarantee - if your kit doesn't produce we'll send out a new one free of charge. There are more extensive instructions on the back of every box, including how to get successive crops.
