Trametes versicolor is considered the most researched 'functional' mushroom in the world. In Japan it is used alongside standard cancer treatment to strengthen the immune system, while in China it is used to treat lung diseases. Most notably one of the active compounds found in Turkey Tail, the protein-bound polysaccharide K (PSK), when given as an adjuvant to chemotherapy, is an approved medicine in Japan.

Studies have demonstrated its potent effect on the immune system, by  increasing Natural Killer Cell activities and promoting anti-tumour action, in gastric, breast, lung, colorectal and other types of cancers. In a study done on the effects of Turkey Tail and Reishi on HPV virus, it showed 83% increase in the clearing of the virus in just two months.
